Island Art

My boyfriend's stepdad was responsible for the designing and "building" of Australia and New Zealand of the World Islands until the funding was cut when the Kuwaiti investors lost their money with the petroleum crisis. The islands remind me of a modern take on the Nazca Lines of Peru.
This photo was taken from the International Space Station.

This is the conceptual design for the World Islands, though it is unsure whether they will ever be completed.

The Palm Islands are a great example of functional Earth Art.  The islands hold commercial and tourist centers (such as the Palms Resort and Hotel).  These islands were actually created to help solve Dubai's shortage of beaches.  I really like the way the World Islands are described on their website.  The background idea for this project is so people can come to the islands and "chart their own course" and create their own world, so to speak.  In addition, those whose idea these islands were, wanted to create something unique in a world where "unique" can be hard to find.  I admire that, and I can certainly understand it.

My apologies for my first two blogs being so short and boring, hopefully more of my own pictures will be more exciting with a little more personal meaning

Maymont and Mexico

"Snake" in the gardens at the Museo-Exhacienda San Gabriel de Barrera in Guanajuato, Mexico.  It added an extra dimension to an area filled with plants.
